Kundalini incorporates breathwork, mantra chanting, physical postures, and meditation.
Just like other forms of yoga.Unlike other types of yoga though, it offers it all at once - in one class.
It is laser-focused, rapid transformation. It's said that it takes 10 years of disciplined hatha practice to accomplish what just 1 year of kundalini yoga does.
You initiate yourself in kundalini. You are your own authority.
Whereas, in hatha (& other forms of yoga), there are certain aspects of wisdom that you have to be initiated into.
This doesn't mean you don't need a teacher, it just means you're not outsourcing your power to anyone.
Kundalini kriyas (physical exercises) generate energy, organize that energy, and deliver you to a certain energetic state.
The purpose of asana in hatha yoga is similar, but often precedes the transformation that happens in savasana.
The powerful breathwork in kundalini strips away the layers of conditioning and cuts through subconscious beliefs and programming.
Breath is typically synced to movement in hatha yoga, preparing to still the mind for meditation. -
No! Yoga can be practiced in any color of clothing. Some practitioners choose to wear white as a way to expand and nurture the aura. White is the result of all wavelengths of light reflected at once.
In kundalini we understand that wearing white acts as energetic protection; reflecting what isn’t ours and allowing us to remain centered in our own practice and power. The suggestion is to wear white clothing made from natural fibers, wool, silk, or cotton so there's less interference with the magnetic field as we work to expand the aura. Synthetic fabrics and chemical dyes can disrupt the natural flow of energy as well as our magnetic field.
That being said, there's no dogma and there are no hard rules around clothing. Teachers and students should wear any color they feel comfortable in.

No. Some teachers and students choose to cover their head to help command the third eye (ajna chakra). Covering the crown chakra during meditation also helps to focus and contain the energies cultivated during the practice.
Hair is your antenna and covering your head helps to contain your energy so you can go deeper into your own experience.
Almost every tradition across the world covers the crown.
This is a major energetic gate.
As such, It’s permeable to energy (including other people’s fields).Yogic texts refer to this area as ‘the door of brahma’.
Covering the crown is about managing what comes in.
It’s practicing good energetic hygiene. -
No. Kundalini yoga is a yoga practice that blends breath, movement, and sound to strengthen the body and still the mind. This is a universal practice that does not ask you to alter your beliefs.

At a time when so many voices are being silenced globally, it’s important that we believe people when they share that they have been wronged. I never met Yogi Bhajan but I understand that we all have shadow (unrealized aspects of consciousness) and light (realized aspects of consciousness) within us and that those shadow aspects can make us capable of committing deep harm to ourselves and others. I cannot say for certain if Yogi Bhajan did what he was accused of, but I believe those who came forward and spoke out about the harm he caused them.
That being said, many things can be true at once. In his more realized aspects of consciousness (his light aspects), he brought the practice of kundalini yoga to the west. He shared with us these tools for the Aquarian Age and from this we have the privilege of practicing with and learning from many wonderful teachers today.
I believe we can and should separate teachings from teachers. Understanding that we all have the capacity to “fall from grace,” it’s important that we do not pedestalize anyone; there are no gurus in the Age of Aquarius. If and when a teacher or leader should “fall,” the teachings, the gifts they shared, do not hold any less truth. These practices are beautiful and transformational and have the power to liberate us from our subconscious patterns. We are being asked to hold many truths at once and to discern for ourselves what is our own best path forward. Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru (who declared the end of the Guru lineage) said, “bow to no master…bow only to the master within you.” We are not here to iconize any leader, and when we’re shaken by news about leaders it’s a sign that we’re too attached to the messenger ahead of the message. Content requires a container (teachings require a teacher). The container ensures the delivery of the content, but it’s not to be consumed.
